Color Wisconsin Red

I live in Wisconsin. I am (well, was) active enough to know most all my local county and state elected officials. I’ve briefly been a minor elected official myself, in fact. I am no great expert but OTOH I do know a thing or two. So I feel on firm ground here.

Wisconsin is no longer a purple state. Wisconsin is now firmly a Republican state.

That’s true on the national level. my Representative Paul Ryan is Speaker of the House. Russ Feingold lost to Sen Johnson again! I reckon Sen Baldwin will have a hard time holding on to office in 2018. A third term for Scott Walker is all but certain. (What else is he gonna do?)

On the state level, the Democratic roster is barren. I cannot think of a single Democratic politician with a state-wide presence. I like (and know) Peter Barca the minority assembly leader, but he is no state-wide force. There are a couple younger promising state assembly members but none of them are household names.

Rank-and-file satisfaction with the state Dems has been low the bast few years. But the local county party is ossified and alabaster — so the  rank-and-file shouldn’t be throwing too many stones either.

The recent trend in Wisconsin has not been good. But this election pretty much seals the deal. I think going forward you’ll hear Wisconsin discussed as another GOP state.
